It's been 87 years since the Titanic sank, and entered into legend. The Titanic now lies 12,556 feet
below the ocean surface with all hope of raising her deminished. The secrets she holds are unimaginable,
but thanks to the efforts of RMS Titanic Inc. she is slowly starting to let those secrets go.
In
1998 on an exploration to the site it was discovered that the ship had sank due to faulty riviots being
broke, and hull plates being pulled apart instead of a 350 foot gash like was originally believed in
1912. It was also discovered that the ship hadn't broke apart until it was completely underwater, being
held together by a piece of the keel.
Another question answered was why the Bow is in such good
shape, and the Stern completely destroyed. The theroy is that when the ship started sinking the Bow filled
with water forcing all the air into the Stern area. As the ship broke into and the Bow section pulled
the Stern down the immense water pressure on the Stern forced the air out causing the explosions that
were reported to have been heard by survivors.
There has never been any bodies found at the site.
There was a pair of boots found that is believed to have belonged to a Crew member. Why are there no
bodies or at least bones being found. There are sections of the ship that have yet to be explored, and
many more that never will be. There is also the possibility that when the ship went down, and the pressure
got so great that the bodies may have imploded. This is a question we will never know the answer too.
One thing is known for sure, and that is that the Titanic is slowing being eaten away by a bacteria.
There is no known way of stopping this at this time. If we can't find a way to stop it the Titanic will
be no more than an iron deposite on the ocean floor by 2050.
